Advancing Diabetes Care: Dr. Chinedu Dike's Research Journey
Dr. Chinedu Michael Dike, a Family Medicine resident at Niger Foundation Hospital, has transformed diabetes care in Nigeria through Learna's PGDip and MSc programmes. Building on his MB;BS from the University of Ibadan and the 2018 Merck Foundation Diabetes Award, he's made significant strides in both research and community outreach.
His PGDip studies directly impacted patient care, leading him to establish an annual World Diabetes Day initiative at Niger Foundation Hospital. The programme, now in its fourth year, expanded to rural health centres 40km from Enugu, providing free screenings and education to hundreds of patients.
Dr. Dike's MSc research on "Current trends in the management of diabetes in Africa" earned international recognition. His findings, presented at the 2023 International Diabetes Federation Virtual Congress, will be published in Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice. Additionally, his academic achievements secured him solidarity membership in the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).
Under the mentorship of Dr. Ahmed Waheed, Dr. Dike developed evidence-based approaches to diabetes management. His advice for prospective students emphasizes the "four D's": diligence, determination, dedication, and meeting deadlines.
He said: "The course will broaden your horizons and open doors for you," he affirms, highlighting how the flexible online format allowed him to balance his medical practice with advanced studies.
