Balancing a demanding role as a Ward Manager while pursuing an MSc in Leadership in Healthcare is no easy move to make. Yet, for Donna Wigmore, this journey not only enhanced her skills but also led to a well-deserved promotion just days after graduating. Her story is a powerful testament to the impact of lifelong learning and career progression.
Donna initially hesitated to return to academic study. However, after reviewing the course content, she took the leap—and it paid off. While studying, she secured a secondment as a Specialist Dementia Practitioner, allowing her to apply her learning directly to real-world challenges. When her secondment ended in early 2025, she successfully secured a promotion to Senior Nurse Dementia Care.
One of the most unexpected benefits of the leadership course was the value of online learning. Despite initial concerns, Donna found that engaging with professionals worldwide enriched her experience and broadened her perspective. The support from her workplace and university also played a crucial role in her success.
Her advice to anyone considering this course? “Take the step, even if it feels outside your comfort zone. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.”
